ICT as a Catalyst for Change in Teaching and Learning

A course for web wise Wapping project headeachers and aspiring heads

The programme will revolve around the key change issues that confront the WWW participants who will:
discuss and refine the WWW vision for transforming teaching using ICT
plan sustainable strategies to use ICT as a catalyst for change
articulate the issues, the benefits and the challenges
plan the ways in which their school will achieve their vision
prepare written resources for reports and inspections
plan for the sustainable future of the WWW project

At the end of the workshop each participant will have developed some plans for change to discuss in their institution and some goals and targets.

The three workshop will cover these subjects areas at the pace of the WWW participants. Suggestion for additional topics are welcome.

Introductions and mind mapping

Session 1
what skills does each head bring to the group
agreeing overall purposes of the project

Session 2
planning the steps to increase the progress in WWW
outlining current projects
clarifying how these will further the overall project aims

Session 3
peer review of curriculum projects
redrafting proposals to refine aims and objectives
introducing opportunities to evaluate learning progress

Session 4
heads presentations: managing organisational change
how will these ideas impact on the individual projects?

Session 5
identifying ‘educational cultural’ factors which impinge on the projects – the drivers for change and the drivers against change
how can these drivers be built on and/or taken account of
what more support is needed – skills? personnel? technical? financial? time?
first thoughts - how might a website provide support?

Session 6
drafting school project implementation plans (ie ‘what has to be done’ and how)
peer review of plans
commitment plan – who do I need to convince etc who do I need to report to

redrafting implementation plans

has time lines and targets
take account of interdependencies
adaptable if there are unanticipated problems
cost-effective in terms of all resources

Session 8
thinking time – peer work – individual guidance etc
update internet and emailing skills for those who need it

agreeing how to go forward
clarifying any confusions

Conclusions and mind mapping evaluation

All the participants will receive about half an hour of relevant reading material before each workshop.
