Project Method:
Rachel is working with 12 gifted and talented children in
Year 2 and hoping to develop links with other children in
Year 2 in Cumbria.
They have sent pictures to the school in Cumbria showing
them what they are doing and
teachers from Cumbria are making a visit to Blue Gate Fields
Infants next week to begin these links.
Expected
outcomes:
Rachel hopes for the children to extend on their ICT skills
using think, being putting up articles with graphics and
hyperlinks to demonstrate ict capability.
Timeline:
Rachel will begin the links with the other school and will
let us know when she would like us to visit to assist in
the classroom or perhaps with training of teachers.
Method
of recording project:
Rachel will document with the children in a diary form on
think.com what they have learnt from each session. She will
send us the aims of the project in a word document to Mike
to put up on the website.
Resources
available to project:
The school has a digital camera which the children are using
and all staff have laptops which has been a wonderful way
to develop their ICT skills, better planning, assessment
and get on the internet for the 1st time. Rachel has a laptop
from the project and has found it useful in training on
think.com and lesson planning after hours as well as using
the Internet to look for resources or pictures to use with
the children. She has even learnt a bit of html.
The school itself has a small ICT suite but each classroom
has 3 computers in it for the children's use. They have
also received broadband, which has made think.com a lot
faster.
Constraints
and Opportunities that have been discovered:
An opportunity to train staff through the WWW project would
be of great benefit to Rachel as she trains the teachers
in her school. Also she would like to develop the school
website .
The LEA Advisory team that went in and did some model ICT
lessons in Year 1 were valuable.
Additional
Input that might be useful on this project:
Training for teachers and assistance in website development.
We will
record the school's progress with the project over the next
two terms and report it on these pages.
